I finally made it to the Newstand! I loved the cozy atmosphere and how friendly the baristas were. It's been a minute since I had a good pour over and it did not disappoint. So many good menu choices.. I'll definitely be back!
The food was amazing! You can tell the ingredients are super fresh and everything we ordered was delicious Coffee was great too! The only negative was the construction happening around the building which made it a little difficult to find the entrance
Don't let the scaffolding outside fool you! We have been to the Newstand a few times and each time has been excellent. The service is quick, the staff is friendly and helpful, and everything they make is intentional and high quality. Even the paper bags they use for to-go orders are both aesthetically pleasing and practical. The prices can seem a bit high ($12 for a breakfast sandwich) BUT the amount and quality of the food you get is well worth the price. Also, their hours make it an accessible treat for those of us who don't work a traditional 9-5. 10/10 would definitely recommend
Came here with a work friend and had a lovely time! I got the cottage cheese and toast with a side of bacon and my friend had gotten the avocado toast. Mine was delightful! Her hot coffee was served in a sweet pink glass. Everyone was kind between the service and description of the menu. A great spot for meeting up with friends or a new date.
Here's your Newstand is a fantastic spot for comfort food, baked goods, and coffee in a laid-back setting. I tried the Times sandwich and an Americano coffee during my visit, and both were excellent. The Times sandwich was packed with flavor--a perfect balance of meats like salami, mortadella, and capicola, combined with fresh iceberg lettuce, tomato, onion, and provolone. The Duke's mayo and oil and vinegar tied everything together beautifully. The bread deserves a special mention--it was homemade, fresh, and absolutely delicious, elevating the whole sandwich. The Americano was smooth, strong, and exactly what I needed to accompany the meal. Their coffee clearly lives up to the same high standard as their food. The restaurant has a laid-back and clean vibe, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy a casual meal or coffee break. The friendly and helpful waitstaff added to the positive experience. With such an appealing menu, I'm already looking forward to returning to explore more of their offerings.
We visited for the first time today! The ambiance is great and I would say the staff are nice and patient. The food was super yummy, we also got the yogurt bowl which was great. I had "the tribute" which I really enjoyed along with my one year old! This place does not seem toddler friendly but they are! They had a booster seat with a buckle stashed away! You just have to ask them for it.
Place was packed for good reason. Was not able to taste the food because every table was taken so I got there's seasonal apple pie latte. It was a decent latte and tables did open up by the time I received my drink. If you're just there to drink a latte I would go somewhere else. You're there to try the menu this place looks great but still have not tasted their food. The vibes are there and I did enjoy looking at the vintage clothing they were selling. I appreciate it that it was men clothing for the most part. I would give it a 3.5 however since I cannot put .5 I will go up to 4 as the staff and ambiance was nice.
The outside of the building has scaffolding. It almost doesn't look like a functional business! The scaffolding makes it seem like we were in New York. There is only street parking available. We parked a few blocks over next to an apartment complex. We got a latte with sticky bunz syrup and a latte with pink syrup. Each drink was around $9, which is pretty expensive relative to other San Antonio coffee spots. The server described the pink syrup as rose and pomegranate. It was delicious! The rose did not taste like a perfume. The inside decor is retro and very interesting to look at. They also have vintage clothing on sale.
Tried the cantado with vanilla syrup 9/10. In a small cup but here it seems its for quality and not necessarily to fill you up but nevertheless a gem! The cantado is espresso with milk foam so a stronger latte? Great for brunch, snacks, drinks!! Menu is small but it gets the job done for providing a great atmosphere for friends and family! I would definitely go here with friends for sure! Parking was a bit confusing but they do have a strip of free parking for customers--if not there are garages around that you may have to pay. Also good location as it is close to the pearl!
My friend and I had a great time here on Monday (Labor Day). The staff is phenomenal, the vibe is fun, and the food was delicious. Sadly, I forgot Monday was a holiday and therefore not a weekend date, so I wasn't able to order the beef cheek sandwich I'd been eyeballing, and it wasn't 10:30 yet, so I couldn't order my backup (egg salad sando). The breakfast options were a little limited, so I ordered the avocado salmon toast. Props to the cashier for being incredibly patient with me! (I'M SORRY!!) First off, for the location - the prices are pretty decent. The closer you get to the Pearl and Downtown the more expensive things are, but this was kind to my wallet. I also ordered a cortado, a flat white, and a mimosa. My friend ordered yogurt, a mimosa, and black coffee. While the food is decently priced, the coffee is a smidge on the higher end. The coffees were excellent. The cortado in particular was divine. Very smooth and velvety! Even the black coffee was really good. I'll need to buy a bag of beans next time. My toast was deceptively filling - two long, thin pieces of bread. One with smashed avocado and salmon, the other with some sort of salmon spread, both topped with fresh sprouts. One of the toasts was enough to fill me up, and I ended up taking the other home. I also picked up a cookie for my sister. When we shared it that night, it was very soft and decadent. A+ cookie. My maps app took me to the corner of Grayson and Broadway, but the cafe is more on the corner of Josephine and Broadway. Just a heads up for anyone trying to find them. This is a place I feel really shines on the weekends, so perhaps next time a visit on Saturday or Sunday is needed. Regardless, my friend and I really enjoyed meeting up here.
